I just found out there's a major Stanley Spencer retrospective this summer, one of my favourite artists and it's just up the road at the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield.

Excited.

! No longer available

I went to this yesterday and was bowled over. They've got a great collection of his best work together and really well displayed. Highly recommended and I'll be going again, it's free too.

I got the audio guide. I don't normally bother with those but this one is solely recordings of Stanley Spencer talking about each work, so you get to understand the mysteries of each painting. But he can't half bang on about them!

Just don't park in their car park, it's £5 and you can park for free at any nearby retail park.

There's other good stuff in the Hepworth, just not the bloody Barbara Hepworth stuff. I really don't see the appeal of it.

I do like the Hepworth gallery, so we'll head up there en famille in a fortnight I think.
Thanks for the tip!

I'd never been before, but I was impressed. The design is very similar to the new Turner Contemporary in Margate which I was at last week on our mini-break in Kent.

But I'll know next time to park in a local supermarket or retail park, rather than pay the £5 charge at the Hepworth car park.

Leadsom is the insurgent candidate who has won support from colleagues on the Tory right, who supported her with a rally in Westminster on Thursday where they chanted: “What do we want? Andrea for leader. When do we want it? Now.”

Wow - how big is it?

Today I was mostly cheered up by a quiet, meandering, early-morning walk with my dog.

'This Country' on BBC3. Best comedy for a long time and what the Cotswolds is really like, not the chocolate box tourist version.

Today (or at least yesterday)
I was cheered up by the discovery that this forum has started working again. I was so sure it had gone that I dropped the link into a "Dead forums" folder.

For a given definition of "working".

It needs some maintenance. There are 4744 new accounts awaiting approval.
