#clickbait

I get irritated by the use of it, and now it's spreading to usually staid organs.

eg
It was hard to stomach David Cameron preaching austerity from a golden throne
or
Off yer bikes! Cyclists are a menace to society — and self-righteous to boot

The second one might provide an insight in the cesspit of the resulting comments where rodliddle writes that he's paid £500 for every 100 comments.

Can anyone think of six reasons to smash a subeditors teeth in?

It's all part of the dumbing down of political debate.

My personal bugbear is internet quotes that turn out to have never been said. They're soundbite length, they're the sort of thing you wish was true, but when you look them up they were never said by the person they were attributed to.

There's probably more untrue ****e swilling around on the Internet than verifiable fact.

The latest round seems to be along the lines of You'll never believe what Toyah from coronation Street looks like now

Does anyone really click on this stuff when it's at the bottom of a Daily Telegraph article on the Prime Minister's leather trousers?

Bet that you wouldn't have said that last year.

The strides/person combination would have elicited the same response. The PM bit just makes it all a bit too real for me.

What could anyone possibly have against leather trousers? It's healthy and allows the air to circulate.
