Reminds me of the old "Game of Life" computer program.

Because it's the same thing basically, complexity produced from simplicity.

interesting that the discussion of this kind of reaction has led to formulating "wet" computers.

William Poundstone's book, "the recursive universe" shows that logic gates and indeed whole computers can arise from a random field of cellular automata (like Conway's "life")

This makes the mystery of bootstrapping in biology slightly less mysterious.

Comedy, love, and a bit with a dog. That's what they want.

This isn't Hansard, it's just passing time and hanging out. Why do people have to be so overwrought about it?

Douglas Hofstadter has theorized that the quality of being cognitive and sensate as we experience it, is related to all this.

If I could explain how, I'd be Douglas Hofstadter.

This is a good lecture, indirectly related to all of this only. Hofstadter comes in at 13m10s

I know someone who was arrested and charged for having too much radioactive stuff. He collected antiques from the time when radioactivity was looked on as something that could be good for you.

He got 180 hours community service and a suspended prison sentence and had all his collection confiscated. There's a movie of the police raid on his houseboat in Amsterdam which I'll post if I can still find it.
